The Academic Medical Center (AMC) is one of the foremost research institutions in the Netherlands, as well as one of its largest hospitals. Over 7,000 people work here to provide integrated patient care, fundamental and clinical scientific research, and teaching. The AMC complex houses the university hospital and the faculty of medicine of UvA as well as the Emma Children’s Hospital, the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience, the medical department of the Royal Tropical Institute and the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development.
The department of obstetrics & Gynaecology has great expertise in conducting national and international multi-center randomized controlled trials. The focus of these trials is to study the cost-effectiveness of new diagnostic and therapeutic interventions against yet established interventions. The research of the department is concentrated in the research line “reproduction & development” which comprises 25 principal investigators and 200 PhD fellows.
Main tasks in the WOMEN-UP project
AMC will be in charge of Netherland clinical assessment. Moreover, AMC will support evaluation of economic benefits for the public health system across Europe based on statistic information the evidence from the clinical trials with patients in the three pilot sites.
